Round 2

DustmxAcademy turned up ready to race at round two, with all riders working out of the Race van.

Moto one saw the 250 D get under away..

Kyle Smorenburg DustmxAcademy rider spun the real wheel of the concrete and had a real bad start he managed to square up turn one and had a straight shot into the second turn he came out in around 6 place!
He would then get to work pick riders off some two at a time eventually making his way into first though Chase Butner would make it hard for him he had a good ride going until little mistakes dropped him back. Moriah Gottschalk from Revolve racing rode consistant with 3-2 for the day it gave him second overall.
Kyle Smorenburg held the flag high for DustmxAcademy once again going 1-1 Kyle Mcclurg got third with 4-6 finishes

Youth 12-15

Ck Douglas dominated this class showing speed no one could match. In the first moto Brinsley Dyess would push hard to try keep the distance down and this would keep her clear of the rest of the pack. She was followed by Tyler Meyer who would get the better of Brinsley by getting second place in moto two. It was Ck Douglas 1-1 Tyler Meyer 3-2 Brinsley Dyess 2-3

Plus 40 C
Sorensen fighting for traction

Peter Sorensen was eager to get into his second race, He felt stronger and worked on some problems from the previous week.
It showed Sorensen got out to a good start, after a few laps worked his way passed Scott lang into second place. John Getz got out to a great start on yz 125 and pulled a big lead for the moto 1 win.
Moto 2 saw Scott Lang up front with Sorensen who had another great start off the concrete, this time Sorensen dug deep and was able to hold of the efforts by Getz. It was Sorensen 2-1, Getz 1-2 and Lang 3-3

250 A

This class normally only one or two riders that attend had a few really fast riders and at the top Zack Freeberg once again showing that he has the speed, fitness and determination to be a pro rider, never letting off the whole moto he would have the 1-1 finish. Brandon Westbury who i have herd has been training with Zack and Adam put in a strong first moto finishing second, Ian Chia back in south florida was third in moto one he would grab second in moto 2 for second overall

250 C

What an epic class, the biggest class of the day fulled with young kids with no fear!
Moto 1 DustmxAcademy rider Kyle Bangerter, second race in the C class got off to a great start and was mixing it until a few mistakes and a bad shoulder slowed him down but he is showing true grit. Nathan Anderson got out to the early lead, Anderson only a year ago lost out in the D class series championship by 4 points. Has taken his riding to another level, he pulled a decent gap mid way through the race but ended up dropping the bike and restarting in the back of the pack. This left Raymond Johnson out front to take the win followed by Jason Gillespie and a hard charging Cameron Fasnacht who came back from a terrible start.
Moto 2
A huge battle with Raymond Johnson, Jason Gillespie, Tharsis Andrade  an Cameron Fasnacht.
Johnson had the lead with Gillespie hot on his heals trying all kinds of lines, Andrade was right in the mix waiting for a mistake. A lot of people ruled out Fasnacht due to his start again unable to get off the concrete. Fasnacht picked his way through rider after rider he eventually put a great pass on Johnson on the last lap for the win. However Johnson had the overall with a 2-1 Fasnacht second 3-1 Gillespie third 2-3

450 D

DustmxAcademy riders Peter Sorensen and Kyle Smorenburg were both looking to top the tables and it started great for Sorensen who had the holeshot. He managed to get a good gap after two laps Smorenburg however struggled with his start he got into second and had some time to make up. He closed right in but Sorensen rode his own lines at his own speed and never cracked under the pressure to take the win Smorenburg was second  with Roberto Guzman (lococross) in a well desrved third
moto 2
Roberto Guzman had the holeshot after one lap he still had the lead he was fighting as hard as he could until he ran tired. Sorensen took the lead this time Smorenburg was close behind and made the pass for the lead though he would drop the bike pick it up and find himself in second. Sorensen feeling the affects of the rough track nearly crashing twice gave the position up to Smorenburg, and Smorenburg would crash again this time he was no able to pass Sorensen who went 1-1 Smorenburg 2-2 Guzman 3-4

DNA Challenge

What a race for those there to witness it i'm sure you cant wait for the next round..
Derek Hall once again grabbed the holeshot from the outside and launched his way over the first ski jump, somehow Zack  Freeberg managed to get his 250f into second place Donald Solley would be in third. Hall would set a blistering  pace which would separate those three from the rest. Solley would get by Freeberg and set his sights on Hall, Hall for the second week in a row just got the bike that day with no practice started to make some mistakes. Then just before the finish line Hall bobbled in the whoops Solley saw the opportunity and got slightly inside of Hall to make the pass. Those few mistakes slowed both and Hall and Solley down going into the final turn, Hall Started to square off the turn to try get Solley back., but Freeberg with a good drive through the whoops came right up the inside of both the riders. Hall was able to avoid all contact and still square the corner up Freeberg would come together with Solley forcing him over the berm.

Hall not having the traction he needed up the inside settled into second behind Freeburg. Solley did not go down and went on hot pursuit of the two riders ahead of him, he would get by what would seem to be a tiring Hall, Freeberg was doing his best to pull away though you could see the 250f just lagging in the deep sand corners. Solley every lap around the outside line leading to the middle table top seemed to close in on Freeberg, he would eventually use this and jump right next to Freeberg, Solley just about inline with Freeberg off the jump with the inside line and 450 power, needless to say he was wanting pay back and ran Freeberg up the berm.
As they came round to complete another lap the same turn Freeberg made the move on Hall and Solley he missed his line and went over the top. Freeberg kept it on two wheels and set after Solley.
Solley had a good pace going although something happened over in the back and Freeberg cam out in first with Solley around 15 seconds back. The race would end up with Freeberg 1st, Solley 2nd, Hall 3rd, Ian Chia 4th and Derek Borque 5th

Back On Track, Round 1

After the winter break through Christmass and new years, it was time to go racing agian!
What a fantastic crowd for the first round of the south florida mx series.

It all kicked off with the 450 D class and Kyle Smorenburg on top form after putting in his time with DustmxAcademy he was able to take two first place finishes and muscle the 450 to both holeshots on his first race on the big bike. Second place went to Peter Sorensen who had to fight his way into second after some bad starts, his smooth and consistent riding gave him 2-2 finishes not bad for his first race appearance ever. This was good for DustmxAcademy taking the top 2 positions it would have been the top 3, though Kyle Bangerter deciding to step up to the C class as he won the series last year.
Kyle Smorenburg would also sweap the 250 D class with his first ever 1-1  1-1 for both classes look out for this guy in the future.
start of B class
250 B

This class had some of the best racing though the day. Ck Douglas in the first moto was able to get out front put in some really fast laps and even pull away from the a riders that were mixed in that class. However behind him Dustin Jensen, Jonathan Cloutier and Taylor Ditzian were all charging hard to get the 2nd place finish, Cloutier just recently getting a 250f and struggling with the lack of power but he made up for it with his determination getting 3rd place finish. Ditzian still getting back to fittness from his know injury finished 3rd overall with 4-3 scores. Dustin Jensen pulled one out the bag in moto two taking the win and overall ahead of Douglas.
Brinsley chasing Delgado

Plus 45/ Women

Donnie Delgado back on track nice to see him out there and looking solid and fit! After just losing out on the plus 40 class to Mike Mezie in the last moto, It was on He shot out to an early lead however the pressure was not comming from Mezie it was from Brinsley Dyess who seems to really be enjoying the 250f suzuki, Delgado put down some real fast laps and was not able to shake of Brinsley. Delgado though unfazed by the pressure kept the strong and was able to pull a comfortable gap by the end of the race he would go 1-1 Mike Mezie strong 2-2 Steve Rejda went 3-3
The womens was Brinsley Dyess 1-1 and Brooke Couch 2-2

450 C

Kyle Bangerter From DustmxAcademy took on the decision to step up to the C class after winning the 450 D last season. So his main goel for the season is to gain experience finish races and never give up.. He came out strong to finish 11th. Jason Gillespie stood out from the rest as he rode with a new found confidence wining the first moto in great style in the second moto Robert Vogel had other ideas and stamped his authority with the win he would go 2-1 for first overall followed by Jason Gillespie with 1-2 score. Chris Lacroix was third and Tharsis Andrade pushed hard into 4th place

Plus 35

Dennis Bourque was back in action after an injury the smooth riding honda pilot got out with the holeshot he would sprint for two laps and have a look back Dave Rafferty was not letting go, Bourque would give the lead to Rafferty. Rafferty was all business with with an error by Bourque, Rafferty grabbed the moto 1 win,
Moto 2 saw Bourque holeshot again this time Brett Cormier would be on his tail pushing hard, Rafferty went doen on lap one and was able to pull through to 3rd for second overall with a 1-3 Bourque was your winner 2-1 and Cormier third 3-2

plus 40 C

DustmxAcademy rider Peter Sorensen was ablbe to mis a first turn crash in moto 1 he would ride very consistent laps and come away with 1st, Jerry Ciccone would pick him self up charge to 2nd place and Dean Trapp in 3rd. So it all went down to moto 2, Dean Trapp would get out fron early, Jerry Ciccone and Mark Churchwell were also up front Peter Sorensen was recovering from a fumble into turn 1, Ciccone would make a pass then Sorrensen would follow those two would work their way to the front with Ciccone taking the win and overall 2-1 Sorensen 1-2 and Trapp 3-3

DNA challenge

Derek Hall who came out of no where showed up borrowed Donnie Delgado's bike smoked the holeshot from the outside! He would lead the first few laps followed by Donald Solley and Zack Freeberg  giving chase, Hall's fitness not up to par from being out for so long and Freeberg turning lap times that are fit for nationals. He made his way to the front. Solley would pass Hall, but Hall stuck on his back wheel, relaxed himself and found an extra wind he would pass Solley with all that going on Freeberg who had pulled a big lead managed to disapear, bike failure! So Derek Hall after all  the laps were counted pulled one out the bag to show everyone his ability for the win. Solley was second and Brandon Westbury third

A practice day with DustmxAcademy @ L-Cross

DustmxAcademy showed up at the newly designed L-cross track. With major improvements done by Greg Barker, We planned only going on Saturday but the riders were so impressed we went both days!!!

Kyle Smorenburg getting ready for some motos at the DustmxAcademy camp

We turned up fairly early on Saturday morning with a bunch of riders already on the track and everyone keen to test the track. The layout has been extended and took a little getting used to, the jump faces were real good and a technical track with the jumps and turns after the first session it was all positive feed back by the guys..
Racso Bartra Setting himself up for a turn right after the jump

Anyway after all the comments likes and favorite sections it was down to business as usual. The riders putting in the motos.
As the day rounded out Both Racso and Kyle Smorenburg were tired as they found out the new layout was a good workout. Racso's fasted time a 1:34 he was able to match that on both the 450 and 250 machine although his laps were more consistent on the 250
Kyle had a solid 1:41 lap time and was able to put that in on the last session on the 2nd last lap when the track was the roughest he followed it up with a 1:42 on the last lap

Kyle Smorenburg Styling off one of may cool jumps

Sunday, bright and early I had word that we have got DustmxAcademy rider Kyle Bangerter joining us, when we arrived Bangerter was eager to go, although he had to still learn the track Racso Bartra and Kyle Smorenburg got all the webs out the day previous.
Bangerter with a new engine setup put some laps down he was keeping a good pace just little mistakes stopping him from doing the whole moto however he pulled it together on the last moto and set his fastest time a 1:41
Kyle Smorenburg and Racso Bartra Both happy to be back at L-cross for a second day despite the way it tired them out on Saturday.
It was a huge effort for both riders the just kept ticking the laps off and with the pep talks in between sessions improvements were made through out the day. Surprisingly Kyle Smorenburg  and Racso Bartra the same as Kyle Bangerter all put their best times in the last session of the day Smorenburg getting down to a 1:37 with a big effort all the way through the day. Racso managed a 1:31 which thus far i believe is the track record, with Track changes expected he may have been the fastest around that track period!

A special thanks to Chris for keeping the team fed, watered and checking over the bikes you were a great help see you next weekend?

Anyway keep looking out for the DustmxAcademy crew in the signature van with the riders tearing up the tracks!!!
Some photos from L-cross and cleaning the bikes for practice

As the team sat through riders meeting it was a matter of keeping warm on sunday, as temperatures were colder than normal. The track was in great condition the crew did a good job to get it ready for the racing that lay ahead.

16-24
Dustin Whitehead was up first , He blasted out the gate on a brand new crf450 kindly supplied by Kioms for the season  ahead. Dust was looking strong with local Rider Jonathan Cloutier in 2nd place, he would keep the field at bay all the way through till the last lap and just being edged out by Liam flanagan.
Moto 2, Dustin once again came out putting his new bike to work and getting another holeshot, He would put in some solid laps and keep an eye on the track for lines later in the day. Jonathan was able to hold on to 4th it would be good for 2nd overall. Another local rider back from injury Taylor Ditzian was able to sneak on the podium with a 6-2 finish

250C
DustmxAcademy rider Racso Bartra was having trouble with the 250 machine making changes trying to fix the bike, He was able to come out with a good start in moto 1 with 30 riders on the gate, he would battle it out the whole moto with Randy Dioliviera and Mike Morgan having to settle for 7th. Kody Goss had a very strong ride coming through the pack to finish in 2nd behind a very fast and smooth Cameron Fasnacht
Moto2,
There was mayhem all the top guys seemed to be on the floor or with bad starts, Kody Goss saw his opportunity, took the lead and never looked back for the moto and overall win, Mike Morgan snuck in for 3rd overall and 2nd in the moto. Race 1 winner Cameron Fasnacht found himself picking the bike up and slicing through the field for a 9th place finish. Racso Bartra was not having the best day on the 250 he was in constant battles the whole time his never give up attitude pulled him in for a 10th place finish

250D

Kyle Bangerter had made a name for himself in the 450D class and now he set his sights on the more competitive 250 D. Moto1, Kyle got out to a great start, put his head down and never looked back he kept his cool and held on to the 1st place position till the end. Jeno Naples followed him home in 2nd with a good ride. Moto 2,
Kyle Bangerter on his fellow team riders bike Kyle Smorenburg Who has been injured for the DustmxAcademy team lent his bike out, Kyle B came out with another good start and his form is starting to show, even on a borrowed bike he was able to push and fight for the lead the young rider was flowing through the track with the conditions getting worse his style has changed and for the better standing over all the bumps, a 2nd place finish showed he had potential in the 250D class taking the overall win

Open A/B (money Class)
With a $2000 purse up for grabs thanks to Thundercross mx park and no entry fee, it brought a whole lot of riders up to the plate,
Moto 1 Micheal Clarke and Tyler Livesay out the gate first into the the second turn Clarke
went wide leaving the inside open for Livesay the two riders came together hard with Clack coming out worse laying in the dirt he would pick the bike up and charge only to fall a few corners later. After the 1st lap Livesy would have the lead all the way to the finish with Dust in a strong 2nd place pushing all the way to the end, Sean Sattano would finish in 3rd place
Moto 2 Clarke was out for revenge he would take the holeshot and try to get away from Livesay who right on his heels Jeff mort would run in 3rd for a short while. Dean Dyess would get by him, Dust was coming back from a bad start he would first pass Mort and set his sites on Dyess, Dyess with local track knowledge had a whole lot of different line choices that was working for him, Dyess and Dust would go back and forth for a while before Dust would pull away and come in for a lonely 3rd place Livesay was 2nd and Clarke 1st

450C

Racso Bartra was out to redeem himself and DustmxAcademy after all the trouble in the 250C He would come out with a good start although a little too anxious to get to the front and some costly little mistakes held him back finishing in 6th. With Robert Vogel taking the win followed by a good ride by Mike Morgan coming through the field.
Moto 2 Racso came out front and was leading after the first lap he was looking to prove that this is where he belongs, Racso's cornering was really good and had many comments by riders, parents and friends all day on how he is improving. This was the ride he put all of what he has learned together. The whole race he was smooth and fast pushing till the finish, he came away with the win.

450D
Kyle was on another borrowed bike this time a Suzuki in moto 1 he was only able to get 3rd just trying to keep the damage down as he was looking to take the championship title.
Moto 2 Kyle was back on the DustmxAcademy bike of Kyle Smorenburg he came out with alot more aggression he wanted the win he wanted the title and was proving to everyone tha the deserved it on a foreign bike he took the last moto win of the series.

Round 5 (back to bithlo)

Dustmx Academy arrived early to bithlo motorsports to check out the track and the changes that are made every race.
Dustmx Academy has got one more rider Racso Bartra who rides in the 250 and 450C classes welcome Racso to Dustmx Academy.
Racso getting some air

For Racso's 1st race under Dustmx Academy he was very relaxed and always listening for the slightest bit of advise he could get.
In his 1st moto of the 450 C class he had made a few mistakes and was charging through the field on the last lap he closed right up on Mike Mike Morgan in the final sharp right hand turn Racso opting for the wide outside line Mike made a little bobble on the inside and for a second it looked like Racso Would snatch 4th place on the last corner but he was not able to get the drive to the finish he had to settle for 5th.
Moto 2 saw a completely different rider Racso got out to the holeshot, but Shane Kehoe would quickly pass him for the lead Racso hot on his tail Shane would crash handing the lead to Racso, he would push and get a big gap with Robert Vogel coming through the pack getting into 2nd place. Racso was starting to ride tense trying not to make any mistakes but this would slow his pace and Robert was able to pass Racso just before the finish. Although finishing 2nd Racso showed he has potential just needs a bit of fine tuning
250C Racso having a poor 1st moto filled with crashes and silly mistakes he was only able to finish in 10th,
Moto 2 would be better he came out with a decent start and made a few good passes midway through the race however time would run out for the young rider and he finished a respectable 5th place
Racso Bartra 450c 5th-2nd, 250c 10th-5th

Dustin "Thanks David for the Bike"

Dustin's Day would be very eventful. In his 1st moto he got of to a decent start once again on borrowed wheels this time from fellow African rider David Seitz, the bike had a few problems after a lap the rear shock would almost lock up and was so stiff. Dustin however is able to get on any machine and try make it work "if its got wheels and runs i'll ride it" as he says. Anyway he was able to close up to second place and on the final lap he mad a pass with the other rider going off the track he would re enter with more speed in the turn Dustin Deciding to give him the inside line to avoid contact Dustin would then make an aggressive pass up the inside on the final turn with no contact at anytime to take the chequers. However this pass would stir up some animosity though it seemed to be a fair racing move.
In moto 2 Dustin would use a kx 450 from new member Racso (thanks) Dust would grab the lead early on settle into a good pace and ride smooth for an easy win
16-24 class Dustin had a bad start pulled through into 3rd place and with on going problems with the yz 250 just rode it in for 3rd. Moto 2 saw him on the 450 kx and coming out the gate in second forcing the leader into a mistake for another easy win.
Dust 450A 1st-1st 16-24 3rd-1st

Kyle Bangerter on the top step 1st place

Kyle fired his day off with a great start in his 1st moto after his previous performance at thundercross he brought that momentum to this race he rode very smooth improving his style every week he was able to control the 450 D class and was able to win in both motos proving to everyone that he can be up front and limit the mistakes in 2 races.
In the 250 D he rode well some bad starts and  a few mistakes kept him back, in moto 1 he pulled through to a 5th place finish. In the 2nd moto Kyle got his game on on wanted to prove he was a force to be reckoned with in the 250 D class he pushed  and he was chasing down 3rd place keeping with the top runners as he tried to make a move for third he fell and dropped back to 5th once again Kyle put everything he had and his performance does not show in the results.

Well we have a 2 week break till the final at thundercross and with a purse of $2000 up for grabs it should be a good one, Dustmx Academy is going to be training in the gym and on the track to make a big push and show for the final round

round 4

Round 4 took place at Thundercross, with Dustmx Academy riders having a good practice day on Saturday fine tuning the bikes and lines.
Kyle Bangerter taking a turn on his way to a strong finish

Kyle Bangerter was back for some action putting in effort and really putting down some good laps.
In the 1st moto after a bad start he was almost last he and with a tremendous effort after 2 laps he found a good pace and good passing lines he was able to push through to a 4th place finish in the 450D
Moto 2 was a new game with his efforts in the 1st moto brought a whole new found confidence and it showed with some real smooth riding and little mistakes pulling through to a 2nd place finish just behind Jhoser Dois Ries who was out classed in the 450D see him moving in the C class next time

In the 250D Kyle B, had to work harder as the class had much more riders he battled the whole way through the moto and was edged out of the 3rd place by Ricardo Souza. In the 2nd moto Kyle B had put all his effort in the last 3 motos he had a big push for the last race but mistakes would keep him back for a 7th place finish, Dustmx Academy gives a 10 for effort just need the endurance.
Dustin just ahead of Zack Freeberg early in moto 2
Dustin Whitehead, was happy to be on the 2 stroke he had put in a bit more testing fine tuned the jetting and had a bit more training. In his 1st moto Zack Freeberg took the holeshot followed by enduro expert Garret Edmisten, Dustin quickly dived to the inside of Garret and set his sights on a very rapid Freeberg, Dustin with yet more mistakes this season would loose 2nd to Edmisten and fall back. Edmisten would later have bike problems handing the win to Freeberg with Dustin in 2nd.
Moto 2 of the A class Dustin pulled the holeshot from the very 1st gate everyone else choosing middle to outside gates, Dustin put his head down and charged as hard as he could however with the pressure from Freeburg, Dustin would make a mistake in the whoops and go over the berm. Freeberg took the lead set his sites on the 1-1 finish, Dustin would  stay with Freeberg keeping him honest for a few laps even forcing Freeberg into a few mistakes but Freeberg took control for an easy win in the last half of the moto.
In the 16-24 class Dustin Would take the lead on the opening lap of the race finding some good lines for a good confidence boosting win.
Moto 2 saw him lined up right next to the young sensation Adam Cianiarulo, Dustin got to the turn 1st but blew the corner Adam would take the lead followed by Randy Deoliviera, Dustin quickly got by Randy and went after Adam however just before the 1st lap was completed Dustin's bike would give up on him handing the win over

Bithlo round 3

Dustmx Academy rolled into Bithlo for the 3rd round of the South florida mx series with high expectations.
With Kyle Smorenburg out , the Academy teamed up with another Kyle, Kyle Bangerter, we had no high expectations for Kyle B at this round. But he had plans of his own i'm sure trying to prove his worth.

Kyle B entered the 250 d and 450 D classes, in the 1st 250 D class he had a good start but was unable to keep it on 2 wheels, little mistakes causing him to crash, though he was able to pull through  to 4th and 5th for a 4th overall,
In the 450 D he got his 1st moto over with and was alot more relaxed, Kyle got a good start got into the lead early and did enough to control the race for a race 1 victory. In the 2nd moto Kyle was up for a strong finish he put all his effort in the other three motos he raced and all the little mistakes kept him from the top of the podium. He was narrowly edged of the top step 2nd overall was a good result as its only his second race back in a long time.
Watch for his results to improve as he trains hard for the up comming races

Dustin Had set his mind on the top step after just recently getting his bike back and a good ride at thundercross practicing.
He was able to go 1-1 in the 450A class finishing 3rd in the race to hotshot Adam Cianciarulo and team mate Zack Freeburg.
Adam pulled two consecutive holeshots in the 1st moto, Dustin chased AC and started to close the gap with Freeburg realling in both Dustin and Adam ahead. AC and Freeburg were so smooth and consitant with there laps and Dustin just making too many mistakes was no match for the two factory kawasaki riders.

In the 16-24 class Dustin was left to chase Freeburg again with Freeburg crashing dustin was able to take the win. Another southflorida rider Jordan Swingle put in some huge efforts to finish 3-2 he is showing some real speed lately and should be a force to be reckoned with in the future.
